Our Pelnoir leather jackets are primarily designed for fashion, durability, and luxury lifestyle wear, and are currently not manufactured to accommodate CE-approved impact armor.
Key Distinctions and Safety
Fashion vs. Protective Gear: Jackets built specifically for motorcycle protection are classified as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).1 These jackets are typically thicker, heavier, and include internal pockets sewn into the lining to hold CE-approved armor (Level 1 or Level 2 certified padding) at the shoulders, elbows, and back.
Pelnoir Focus: Our jackets are constructed with high-quality, full-grain, or top-grain leather for superior abrasion resistance (which provides a base level of protection against sliding on the road). However, they prioritize comfort, flexibility, and a streamlined fit over the bulk required for dedicated impact armor pockets.
Abrasion vs. Impact: While the thick leather offers excellent protection against cuts and abrasion, it does not provide the necessary impact energy absorption that CE-rated armor offers during a fall or crash.
Conclusion: Pelnoir jackets are an excellent choice for a stylish and durable look, but for riders prioritizing maximum safety and impact protection, we recommend selecting gear that is officially rated for motorcycle use and includes CE-certified armor.
